Hey there ladies!!!
It's my turn to check in on the Word of the Year for 2020! Last November, God gave me a word. It was solid, secure, and I knew it was my word for 2020, even though November is early to start the New Year. I was having some struggles in my life last fall, and God gave me the confidence and comfort of the word, ASSURANCE, for 2020.
Just like Sharon, I was really looking forward to seeing what the new year, 2020, was going to bring, as well as the new DECADE. I was so optimistic, and I was genuinely giddy with excitement that God was going to ASSURE me of great things to come in 2020 and into the new decade!
Well, my friends, did you ever hear about what happens when you pray for patience? You get LOTS of reasons for your patience to be tested and to grow! Believe me, this is not just a cute cliche; I have prayed for patience, and boy did I learn how to be patient due to that prayer. God wants to show us Who He is, and what He can do, and how He wants to grow us into better disciples of His ways. So when you pray for patience, you will find yourself in plenty of situations to practice!!
So, here I was with my new word for the big year, 2020! And God didn't let me down at all. He showed me plenty of reasons why I needed His ASSURANCE in 2020! I don't mean that sarcastically...I found myself in places of great challenge in so many areas of my life, and God truly never let me feel that He wasn't on top of EVERYTHING that came my way! His promises are real, ladies, believe me!!
My verse for the year was this:
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
You might remember that in January, I got a tattoo with my son, with the scripture reference, 2 Corinthians 5:7 ("Walk by faith, not by sight.") With the challenges that we were facing in our family, just as soon as the New Year began, I quickly saw that when you can't see an end to a hardship, your faith can grow, exponentially. And mine has this year. Through a profound and difficult family situation, the quarantine of Covid-19, isolation, being unable to work with my students in person for six months, a stressful world climate, etc., etc., God assured me of His presence and provision, over and over, in ways that surprised me and calmed me at the same time. I felt so safe, comforted, and cared for, intimately, day by day. I know that each of you had your share of challenges this year also. I'm sorry about that, but I want to tell each one of you that God's assurance is real.
Paul reminds us in Romans 8:38-39, while he was in the midst of great trials, that we can be convinced (assured) that "neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor things to come, not powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." What an all-encompassing statement that is! No matter what, we are loved and cared for by the Lord of Lords!!
As we prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth, let's walk toward the new year, 2021, knowing with all ASSURANCE that no matter what (nothing could surprise us at this point!!), we are so BLESSED and HONORED to be given a Savior such as Him!! It's a reason to celebrate, for sure!!
