Hey Princess Warriors!
Last time we were together we took a look at the Tug of War between the Spiritual Realm and the Earthly realm. One of the most practical things we can do is to put on the Armor of God. Let’s take a look.
You can find the Armor of God in your Bible, in the book of Ephesians 6:10-18. Here is the passage in its entirety:
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
The very first thing we must realize is that the battle is NOT against flesh and blood. That would be your spouse, your children, your boss, your teacher, your neighbor, the man at the grocery store, or the lady walking her dog. Although at times it may feel like the battle is exactly from them and exactly to YOU! Let me assure you, it’s not. I’m speaking to myself girls. The battle is against the spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. We truly need to get a grasp on that truth first. I think if we can “stand firm” in this one truth, our life and perspective may look a bit different. Again, I’m speaking to myself!
The passage says we must “put on the WHOLE armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground”. One thing to note here is the bible doesn’t say “if” it says “when”. I think we can all agree that evil does lurk. So, we stand our ground. The dictionary states it this way: “not retreat or lose one's advantage in the face of opposition”.
I love that the bible says after you have done everything, to stand. I feel like that means, I might get knocked down but I will get back up and stand again. That’s what happens in a battle, right? People get knocked over but we win when we stand up again. Then it says again, “stand firm then”. In just this passage of Ephesians 6, it says “stand” four times! I think we need to pay attention. I had to check my bible study notes to see if there was a reference to “stand firm then”. Check this out…..”take your stance for the next battle”. WHOOOO! I don’t know about you but I got goosebumps with that one. With that phrase, “stand firm then”, immediately follows the Whole Armor of God. Get ready for the next battle and put your Armor on again and again and again, EVERY DAY!
Let’s take a closer look at this armor:
The Belt of Truth: We need to surround ourselves with God’s truth, His Word, the Bible. I heard when someone is training to spy out counterfeit money, they are taught over and over again the real, true bill. When the counterfeit bill shows up, since they know the true bill inside and out, the counterfeit will be revealed. We must know God’s truth this intricately. The biggest scheme of the enemy, the devil (not one of the people mentioned above) is his lies. He is a liar he is called the Father of Lies. Lies are not the truth! Put on the truth! I love how a belt surrounds our core. Think about that!
The Breastplate of Righteousness: I love the breastplate because it protects the heart. Righteousness is “rightness”. Because Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you are “right” with God. This is truly your identity. In the battle, I absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, have to know my security is in Who I am in Jesus! If I waiver in this area I am prone to a flaming dart, directly targeted to my heart. When I doubt who God says I am I start to believe the lies of the enemy and my heart gets broken. I start to believe the passive-aggressive comments from a friend, or no one wants me because I wasn’t included in a decision or invited to a party. I must be a loser. All lies! All attacks straight to the heart. Read up and study “Your Identity in Christ”.
One more piece of Armor to cover today and then next time we will wrap it up. I don’t want to overwhelm you with a long piece to read.
Shoes of Peace: If you know me intimately, I LOVE SHOES!! The shoes of the gospel of peace represents that wherever my feet take me, I am a representative, an ambassador for the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Wherever my feet take me I have the opportunity to speak peace into a situation, to bring the “gospel”, the good news to those who are struggling in their battles. To be a peacemaker, not a troublemaker. This is one of my favorite verses in the bible:
Isaiah 52:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
7 How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
Let this battle preparedness sink into your heart these coming weeks. Next time we will wrap up the Armor and I will share with you one of the Armor Prayers I pray often.
